Frequently Asked Questions

What is TCECPTA?
The Colony Early Childhood Parent Teacher Association is chartered by the Texas and National PTA. Anyone is welcome to join.
Why would I join an early childhood PTA - my child isn't even in school yet?
Proper development during the early years wlll have a direct impact on a child's future ability to succeed in school and later in their adult life. An additional benefit is to see how PTA operates once your child enters formal school. And of course we have our playgroups and other outings that are integral to our organization.
Do I have to go to the meetings? I just want to join for the parties and playgroups.
Meeting attendance is not mandatory, but is highly encouraged. Our main focus is strengthening and supporting families and our meetings are a large part in educating parents of issues that affect their children.
I would like to attend a meeting but don't know anyone in the PTA and would feel awkward coming by myself.
This is a prevalent feeling among new members and we make an extra effort to help people like you feel welcome. Let us know ahead of time that you will be coming alone and we can have a returning member watch for you and be a "buddy".
I would like to try it out before paying the $25 annual dues. Is that possible?
We encourage you to come as our guest to your first meeting. Space for your child(ren) will still require reservations and a nominal charge. ($5 for one child, $8 for two or more) Nursery reservations or questions about nursery can be directed to nursery@tcecpta.org.
How Do I Join?
Getting involved is simple! The more you participate, the more you and your child will benefit. Each member pays annual dues of $25. Your dues entitle you to the monthly newsletter, meetings, and email discussion list. You can join at the monthly meeting membership desk or by contacting the VP of Membership.
Do I have to be a resident of The Colony to be a member of TCECPTA?
No, we have members from The Colony, Carrollton, Frisco, Little Elm and all of our surrounding areas.
TCECPTA meetings are at a church. What is its religious affiliation?
TCECPTA is a community wide association, not associated with any particular church or school.
I am a grandparent raising my grandchild. Do I have to be a parent to be a member of your organization?
No, our organization is for anyone interested in the welfare of children in our community. We are parents, grandparents, childcare providers, teachers and friends.
Can I bring my child to the monthly meetings?
Of Course! We have a Nursery and special Children's Programs designed to provide supervised care for your children while you enjoy the monthly meetings. A nominal fee is charged each month for childcare. For more information on nursery policies, click here.
